Billy Gilmour has 'a huge future' for Scotland, claims captain Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson has backed Billy Gilmour to have 'a huge future' in the game after the Scotland midfielder impressed in their goalless draw against England.

It was a positive night's work for Steve Clarke's men, who benefited from the Three Lions' lack of urgency in attack in their second Group D clash of Euro 2020 to leave Wembley with a well-deserved point.

Chelsea midfielder Gilmour was handed his first senior start for his country and put in a man-of-the-match performance in central midfield alongside Callum McGregor.

And Liverpool left-back Robertson believes the 20-year-old 'can have as many caps as he wants' for Scotland following a 'magnificent' display.

Asked how he rated Gilmour's performance, Robertson told ITV: 'Right up there.

'I spoke to him in hotel today and just looked at him and to be fair to Billy nothing fazes him.

'That's why I believe he can have as many caps as he wants for Scotland. He's got a huge future ahead but the here and now is pretty good as well.

'Today him and Callum McGregor, both of them in the holding role, were magnificent.'

Scotland boss Clarke meanwhile praised Gilmour for taking his chance when it came and revealed no one in their camp was surprised by how well he played.

'We knew before we put him in he can play,' Clarke said after the match.

'It's just getting the right moment, tonight was his big moment and he took it and no one was surprised by it, certainly not in our camp.'
