Cavani ensures Uruguay avoid Brazil

Uruguay have managed to avoid Brazil in the quarter-finals of the Copa America, as they ran out 1-0 winners against Paraguay on Monday night to finish second in their group.

Uruguay peppered the Paraguayan goal throughout the match, but it was an Edinson Cavani penalty that sealed it. The result means they will play Colombia in the quarter-finals of the competition this weekend.

Despite the narrow scoreline, Uruguay dominated proceedings. They just lacked the decisive pass to make it more comfortable.

Real Madrid's Fede Valverde went close to doubling the scoreline in the second half with a long-range effort, as did Luis Suarez, who came on in the 68th minute for Cavani. Yet the score stayed the same.

Paraguay had a late freekick on the edge of the area to try to snatch a draw, but the effort came to nothing.
