Mbappe: PSG step up contract talks amid Real Madrid interest

According to L'Equipe, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has decided to personally oversee PSG’s contract talks with Mbappé, who has a offer on the table worth €26 million a year.

Following Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s statements two weeks ago, in which he claimed that Kylian Mbappé would never leave PSG, the president of the Parisian club is doing everything in his power to ensure that is the case.

According to L'Equipe, Al-Khelaifi has decided to take the reins of the club’s contract negotiations with Mbappé and will seek, at all costs, to reach an agreement in the coming weeks with the French international, who, along with Neymar, is viewed as one of the flagship players for the club’s sporting project moving forward.

As reported in France, talks between PSG sporting director Leonardo and Mbappé’s representatives have not gone as well as expected from the club’s perspective. And that is why Al-Khelaifi, whom Mbappé highly respects, has decided to personally oversee negotiations, with the current offer on the table reportedly worth €26 million a year over 2-3 years.

PSG meet Mbappé demands

With the Qatar World Cup just around the corner and during a decisive summer for PSG's project, Al-Khelaïfi has fulfilled one of Mbappé's requests in contract talks.

Before agreeing to a new deal, the PSG star has asked for guarantees that the club would make investments in a project capable of bringing Champions League success. 

And in the last few weeks Al-Khelaïfi has the closed signings of Gini Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma (although the signings of the latter two have not been officially confirmed, they are considered practically closed).

Meanwhile, L’Equipe assures that, contrary to reports, Mbappé has never considered leaving PSG, and only asks that his demands to build a stronger project through investment in new players be met.

Furthermore, the French paper claims that neither Liverpool nor Real Madrid, the two potential destinations for the French striker, currently have the financial resources to undertake an operation that could cost more than €150 million.
