Pogba insists it's an 'honour' to play alongside Kante in France's midfield

Paul Pogba has insisted it is an 'honour' to play alongside N'Golo Kante in midfield for France, ahead of the country's Euro 2020 opener against Germany on Tuesday.

Didier Deschamps' side have never lost when Pogba and 'beloved' Chelsea defensive midfielder Kante have started together, and the pair will be looking to continue that remarkable invincible record throughout the summer tournament.

And Manchester United star Pogba opened up on how joyous it is playing alongside Ballon d'Or hopeful Kante, with whom he won the 2018 World Cup, and discussed the impact of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema's return to the Les Bleus squad.

He said: 'I hope that this invincibility will continue. It is a pleasure to be by his side: it is an honour for me to play with such a player.

'And the group has grown stronger with the arrival of a very big player who is Karim. Individually, it's a boost for the team.'

Pogba also revealed what French president Emmanuel Macron told the squad when he came to Clairefontaine, as well as emphasising how important it is seeing fans back in stadiums.

He added: '(His message was) Enthusiasm, not to give up and that the team spirit was the strength of this group. It always has been that way. And we will do everything to return to the Elysée (successful).

'Frankly, it's going to make us really, really happy to see you in the stadiums. We are going to give the maximum on the pitch and we will always need you. Because, without you, we are nothing at all.'

After breezing through both tournament warm-ups 3-0, France face Germany on Tuesday before facing Hungary on Saturday and Portugal the following Wednesday in a Group F widely labelled as the 'Group of death'.
