Real Madrid fans approve proposal to play at the Wanda Metropolitano

Real Madrid fans have given their approval for the club to play their first home games of next season at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano - home of city rivals Atletico Madrid.

It comes as part of the plan for Los Blancos to start playing games again at their own Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, which has been undergoing refurbishment works for over a year.

The move would allow the club to accommodate more fans into the stands than would be possible at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training ground.

It's not the first time that this proposal has been mooted in the past year, with Atleti offering up their stadium a year ago as Real Madrid embarked on their ground works.

That didn't happen in the end, but the two clubs have shared pitches at previous points in their history.

It was a MARCA survey that canvassed fans' opinions, asking two questions: "How do you feel about Real Madrid playing at the Wanda next season?" and "Should Atletico Madrid lend the Wanda to Real Madrid?"

Both questions saw over 50,000 respondents, with the first question seeing a 70 percent approval rate. The second question saw 72 percent respond favourably.
