Sancho transfer date set as Man Utd handed fresh ultimatum by Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have hit Manchester United with another transfer ultimatum as they continue to pursue the signing of Jadon Sancho.

Last summer the Red Devils tried and failed to acquire the winger as negotiations continued to drag on.

Dortmund wanted to know whether Sancho would be part of their plans and told United to complete the deal by a certain date - which they failed to do.

12 months on and the Bundesliga club have again challenged the Premier League giants.

Reports circulating in Germany state that Dortmund have demanded £77m plus add-ons for Sancho and want the situation resolved before July 23.

Optimism is growing at Old Trafford that they can strike a deal, but so far their offers have been rejected.

The ball now firmly remains in their court after the Germans handed United a month to meet their valuation.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue with United and Sancho already agreeing what is believed to be a five-year deal.

But Dortmund will have no problems in walking away from the deal if the player's price tag is not met.

United chiefs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer know they cannot afford to miss out on Sancho for a second successive summer.

His value has dropped since 12 months ago as clubs count the cost of the pandemic meaning a deal should be easier to strike.

United endured a poor summer of recruitment last summer, which ultimately cost them at the start of the season as they suffered several home defeats.

An impressive comeback saw them register a second place finish which proves that progress is being made.

That said, they finished someway off Manchester City and both Liverpool and Chelsea will be stronger outfits this term.

It means United need to get their recruitment right and adding Sancho would be a major statement of intent.

Solskjaer is known to want a winger and the young Englishman perfectly suits the profile of player he wants to sign.

Despite a slow start to the 2020-21 campaign Sancho ended the season with 16 goals and 20 assists in 38 matches across all competitions.

Although his efforts have not seen him rewarded by Gareth Southgate thus far at Euro 2020.

The 21-year-old made a late substitute appearance at Wembley against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night having been overlooked for England's opening two games.
