Thomas Tuchel targets £36m star at Euro 2020 as Haaland 'Plan B

Chelsea have a 'Plan B' in the form of Gerard Moreno if they can't secure a move for Erling Haaland this summer.

The Blues are keen to sign a striker during the transfer window as Thomas Tuchel looks to add attacking reinforcements ahead of their Premier League title bid next season.

The Chelsea boss believes a goalscoring no.9 is the missing piece of the puzzle with Timo Werner's difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge and Tammy Abraham tipped to leave the club.

Haaland ticks that box better than anyone as he has scored goals for fun during his 18 months with Dortmund, becoming one of the most exciting young players in world football.

It's believed the Norwegian's preference is to move to Chelsea, but he could cost as much as £150million as the Bundesliga side are not willing to part ways from their prized asset on the cheap.

Manchester United are Manchester City are also reportedly interested in pursuing a deal for Haaland, but could struggle to come up with the required funds.

But Chelsea have identified an alternative if a deal for the rising star doesn't materialise.

And according to Fichajes, that player is Villarreal's Gerard Moreno who is currently starring at Euro 2020 with Spain.

Tuchel is said to be a fan of the 29-year-old who is valued at £36million on transfermarkt with two years remaining on his contract at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Moreno was prolific for the La Liga side last season notching 30 goals and providing eleven assists in all competitions. He also scored in the Europa League final against Manchester United as Villarreal lifted the trophy and their first-ever piece of European silverware.

Moreno has scored 92 goals in 236 La Liga appearances.

He made his international debut with Spain in 2019 and was called up to Luis Enrique's squad for this summer's Euros.

He started their opener against Sweden as a substitute, but made a positive impact off the bench despite the 0-0 scoreline.

Moreno would then lead the line against Poland as he would assist Alvaro Morata's opener, but missed a penalty at 1-1 after Robert Lewandowski's equaliser as Spain would register two draws from their first two games.

For Chelsea, it's unlikely the signing of Moreno would end their interest in Haaland, but a short-term solution for the upcoming campaign before they can attain the Dortmund striker at a more attainable price in 12 months' time.

It's believed Haaland has a release clause between €75 million and €100m that can be triggered in the summer of 2022, which is potentially half of his current asking price.
