Turkey vs Wales Preview and Prediction 2021

Turkey vs Wales predictions ahead of this Euro 2020 clash on Wednesday. Can the Welsh secure a victory after taking a point in their opener against Switzerland? Read on for our free betting tips and predictions.

Turkey scored 14 goals in six games before Friday

Turkey conceded eight shots on target in their opener, while Wales faced 18 shots in theirs

Wales have scored in six of their seven matches at European Championship finals

Turkey have scored 22 goals in their last ten games against European opponents

Can Turkey restore some pride?

Turkey’s role in the much-hyped opening game of the tournament was minimal. They were beaten 3-0 by Italy in their opener in a game which has already dented their goal difference, potentially ruining their chances of making the last 16.

That heavy defeat will offer hope to Wales, who drew 1-1 with Switzerland in their opening game. The Welsh were left hanging on at times in Baku, but having settled in the Azerbaijani city will they be able to hold off a Turkey side who are jetting in from Rome?

We see Wales being able to match Turkey based on the poor display by them in Friday night’s opening game. With Wales picking up a point and looking for more as they chase a place in the next round, we see these two being quite even going into Wednesday’s clash.

Openings for both sides

Turkey have a solid defence, but they didn’t show that in their clash with Italy. The Italians pulled apart Turkey’s backline through good movement and Wales can do the same with Dan James, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey in the side.

Turkey faced eight shots on target against Italy, while Wales saw Switzerland take 18 shots in their clash on Saturday. Neither side can claim to be all that at the back right now, with Wales showing a clear lack of depth in their defence. They certainly won’t match Italy’s defensive options, who were stretched at times dealing with Burak Yilmaz.

We see both teams in this clash scoring, with Wales offering a real attacking threat. Turkey had scored 14 times in six games before Friday and that doesn’t just disappear. Turkey are capable of returning to that form against this Welsh defence, but we don’t see them keeping Bale and co. at bay. Both teams to score is our first prediction, alongside a 1-1 draw with Turkey winning just five of their last 15 internationals.

Yilmaz can finally arrive

Lille forward Yilmaz is seen as the best striker in Group A and he was left with a lot of solitary work to do in Rome. He did plenty of running and stretched the Italian defence at times, but he was isolated and that hampered his effectiveness.

Yilmaz is playing a weaker defence on Wednesday and that should see him build on a run of scoring eight times in his last nine for club and country. Before Friday he had scored five times in his last four internationals and we’re backing Yilmaz to follow up a brilliant season with the French champions by scoring against Wales.
