Liverpool urged to "go and get" Grealish as Man Utd transfer "ruled out"

Liverpool have been urged to "go and get" Jack Grealish with a transfer to Manchester United "ruled out."

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand says the Aston Villa captain would "improve any team" amid talk that his potential transfer to Manchester City is far from close.

Grealish, 25, is set to sit down with his club for talks this week as Mirror Football recently reported and an eye-watering fee of £90million has been mooted.

Following an impact for England at Euro 2020, Grealish's future has been making headlines as Pep Guardiola aims to prize the playmaker away from Villa Park.

However, Ferdinand believes their Premier League rivals should be on the lookout with the Three Lions star said to be concerned about game time if he makes the switch to the Etihad.

"I would love him to join Manchester United, obviously. But I just feel that the position that he plays is stacked," the 42-year-old told his YouTube channel.

"Bruno [Fernandes] in a ten, [Marcus] Rashford’s on the left, [Anthony] Martial is there, [Paul] Pogba is there.

"It kind of rules Manchester United out unless they say, 'no, we’re going to shift a player or two to get him,'" he explained after his old employers signed winger Jadon Sancho for £73million last week.

"That’s the big decision they have to make."

Ferdinand continued to wax lyrical about the "phenomenal" Villa talisman.

"There aren’t many breathtaking footballers around anymore who produce breathtaking moments and make you go, 'wow that was crazy.'

"Jack Grealish does that. He’s just a phenomenal player," he stated.

"If he’s going to go anywhere, I think it will be Man City. He would add to that team."

The former Red Devils defender also praised the boyhood Villa fan's loyalty to the Birmingham-based club.

"Jack Grealish is driven, he’s been loyal, the fact he stayed at Villa last season is enough for them to clap him out of the stadium.

"He’s paid his dues and done great things, helped get them up and kept them in the Premier League."

Ferdinand then added: "Does he improve every team in the Premier League?

"Yes he does, end of argument. He improves every team," as he recommended what Jurgen Klopp and co should be doing.

"If I’m Liverpool, I’m going to get him. If I’m Man City, I’m taking him.

"Because he improves them. He improves Chelsea, 100%.

"Whoever’s got the money to pay for him, do it," Ferdinand affirmed.

"If Liverpool bought him it would be a bolt out of the blue. He improves them and then it’s like, 'wow.'"

Klopp has only brought in centre-back Ibrahima Konate during the transfer window, while Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is without a new signing at this stage.
