Gladbach to give Bayern tough start to title defence
In the opening fixture of this season’s Bundesliga, Borussia Monchengladbach begin their campaign against champions Bayern Munich under their new coach Adi Hutter.

The hosts missed out on European qualification last season in a disappointing season but Hutter did a fantastic job at Eintracht Frankfurt and Gladbach fans will be hopeful he can propel them back into continental competition.

Gladbach have a great recent record against Bayern Munich, too, especially on home soil. They have avoided defeat in five of their last seven at home to the reigning champions and we can see them doing the same again on Friday.

Bayern come into this game after a mediocre pre-season, failing to win any of their four friendlies in July and losing to Gladbach in one of them. New manager Julian Nagelsmann is already coming under scrutiny despite only replacing the departed Hansi Flick at the beginning of last month.

The champions did have an excellent away record last season but they only won three of their final six league games and clearly need a bit of time to adjust to the new manager.

Interestingly, both sides have good records for opening day fixtures, with Gladbach unbeaten in the last three and Bayern the last nine. The last team to beat Bayern on the opening day was none other than Borussia Monchengladbach and while we’re not expecting the underdogs to take maximum points on Friday a draw is well within their reach.
