Chelsea left-back Palmieri joins Lyon on loan, Chalobah now set to stay

Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri has joined Lyon on loan for the remainder of the season.

Lyon will pay a fee of around £420,000 for the 27-year-old Brazil-born Italy international, who can play at left-back or wing-back, who joined Chelsea from Roma in January 2018.

Emerson, who was part of Italy’s Euro 2020 winning squad, came off the bench in the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, which was his 71st Chelsea appearance.

Chelsea are close to agreeing several loan moves for their fringe players.

Marseille are in talks to sign striker Ike Ugbo.

Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is closing on another loan move to AC Milan after extending his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Centre back Matt Miazga is expected to sign for Alaves on loan on Friday.

Chelsea are discussing a new contract for defender Trevor Chalobah after he impressed boss Thomas Tuchel.

The 22-year-old had been touted for a loan move this season but is now set to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah followed a strong pre-season by scoring a spectacular goal in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last Saturday.
