Lineker: No player in the history of football has given as much to one club as Messi

Former Barcelona forward Gary Lineker joined in with the online tributes to Lionel Messi as the Argentine leaves the Catalan club.

Messi's departure was confirmed by Barcelona on Thursday, and the No.10 gave a press conference on Sunday afternoon to bid farewell to the club he spent 21 years with.

"So sad watching a clearly very emotional Lionel Messi having to say goodbye to Barcelona," Lineker said on Twitter. "No player in the history of the sport has given so much joy, so many unforgettable moments, so much success to one club."

Messi was unable to hide his emotions on Sunday and couldn't fight back his tears before speaking.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner is now expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
