Llopis: Reverter & Perez convinced Laporta to kick Messi out of Barcelona

Jaume Llopis, a former member of the Espai Barca Commission who resigned from his post after Lionel Messi's departure from Barcelona, believes that Joan Laporta was convinced by club CEO Ferran Reverter and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to allow the Argentine to leave.

In fact, Llopis went as far as to suggest that Laporta is not the one with authority at the Camp Nou; instead, it is Reverter.

"The new CEO [Reverter] is in charge. I know that everything has to go through the CEO, everything has to be signed by the CEO and not the president," Llopis said on Cadena SER.

"The CEO threatened Joan Laporta with his resignation, and he has an ironclad contract, if he signed [LaLiga's deal] with CVC.

"Laporta was pressured by his CEO and, on the other hand, Florentino convinced him. Between the two of them they convinced him that he has to kick Messi out [of Barcelona] and not sign with CVC."

Llopis pointed to the influence of Florentino Perez and highlighted the friendship that the Real Madrid chief has with Barcelona's current CEO.

"Messi himself said it in his own words: 'I reduced my salary by 50 percent and they didn't ask me for anything else'. CVC are not a vulture fund as has been said, they are a very serious [investment] fund," Llopis noted.

"It is true that the first contract was not accepted because, according to Laporta, it meant mortgaging the TV rights of Barcelona for the next 50 years, but CVC was willing to negotiate. And they did not negotiate either.

"Laporta was convinced by Ferran Reverter, the new CEO, that it was not possible to sign with CVC, and by Florentino Perez with the European Super League project.

"It also happens that Ferran Reverter has a long-standing friendship with Florentino Perez and between them they convinced him and Laporta to radically change his mind and refuse to continue negotiating.

"What is surprising is that there are 25 days left until the end of the [transfer] window, there was time to look for solutions.

"They refused to negotiate with Messi and CVC. It is the perfect solution for Florentino Perez, we could strengthen Real Madrid with [the arrival of Kylian] Mbappe."
