Man City 'in talks with Ruben Dias over new deal worth up to £250,000-per-week'

Manchester City are reportedly already in talks over extending the contract of star defender Ruben Dias - just a year after the defender joined the club.

Dias arrived as a £61million signing from Benfica and was a star in the City backline that stormed to the Premier League title and the Champions League final.

The 24-year-old's impact was so impressive, he ended the season picking up the Premier League player of the year award.

Now according to the Sun, City are ready to reward their star centre-back, who also featured for Portugal at Euro 2020 this summer, with talks having started over extending his £90,000 by a further year to the end of the 2026-27 season while also improving his basic wage.

The report adds that his new wage could put him on par with centre-back partner John Stones, who penned a similar deal worth £250,000-per-week earlier in August.

Dias featured 51 times for City in his maiden campaign and along with Stones was key to a defence which conceded just 32 times last term in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, manager Pep Guardiola is looking to continue strengthening his side in attack in pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who remains first choice to replace Sergio Aguero after the club's record goalscorer departed the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

Kane has accused the north London club of a broken promise in refusing to let him leave after failing to win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League last term, with City having made an offer worth up to £125million.

Should City fail in their bid to land Kane before the deadline at the end of the month, then they could be tempted by an audacious swoop for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sportsmail understands that the Juventus forward has been offered to City as well as other clubs in Europe for as little as £25million, but the Premier League champions have made Kane their No 1 target.
