Ramos 'called Ancelotti for help in convincing Perez to hand him a new deal'

Real Madrid outcast Sergio Ramos asked Carlo Ancelotti to help him agree a new deal at the club on the day of the Italian's appointment, according to reports claiming the veteran was told there was no way back.

Legendary Madrid boss Ancelotti returned to the Bernabeu just two weeks before Ramos made a tearful exit when his contract expired, ending his 16-year stay at the Bernabeu.

By the time the club had sealed Ancelotti's arrival from Everton, Ramos was already destined to depart after dithering on a contract offer that he admitted he should have resolved.

With his exit looming, Ramos telephoned Ancelotti to personally appeal to the newly-appointed manager to help him stay at the club, according to Marca.

Ramos is reported to have asked Ancelotti to mediate in fresh discussions with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, with the account claiming that the 35-year-old hoped it would 'twist the arm' of the club supremo.

The Spanish outlet says that Ancelotti told Ramos the situation was 'beyond his powers', leading to one of the most successful players in Los Blancos' history leaving the La Liga giants 15 days later.

Stalwart Ramos scored and was named man of the match when Madrid won the Champions League under Ancelotti in 2014, and the Spain legend would have loved to have been reunited with the familiar man in charge this season.

Instead, he held an emotional press conference at the club to confirm his departure despite having a one-year deal on reduced terms offered to him months earlier.

Perez paid tribute to the defender and the pair posed alongside some of the 22 trophies Ramos helped the club win during his glittering career, but he was left in tears as he admitted that he never wanted to leave.

Paris Saint-Germain snapped Ramos up at the start of July on a two-year deal, when he pronounced himself 'proud' to be part of the French giants' 'ambitious' set-up.

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has since joined him at the Parc des Princes following another contract fiasco, with Barca unable to commit to a new deal for their talisman because of spending rules in Spain.

Injury-troubled Ramos is yet to feature for PSG, missing their 4-2 Ligue 1 win at Brest on Friday.
