Raphael Varane takes to social media to react to Old Trafford welcome

New Manchester United signing Raphael Varane has this afternoon taken to Twitter, to reveal his joy at the warm welcome afforded to him at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Fernandes takes the match ball
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.

On the back of a long and at times testing summer for the club’s fanbase, the Red Devils welcomed their loyal support back to Old Trafford, for a Premier League opening day meeting with Leeds United.

United headed into proceedings with spirits no doubt high in the club’s camp, having rounded their pre-season schedule with a 4-0 drubbing of Everton, and with memories of a 6-2 thumping of their opponents on Saturday still fresh in the memory.

In turn, when all was said and done in Manchester, it came as little surprise to see the hosts again emerge victorious.

Another dominant display on the part of Solskjaer’s men eventually saw them put Leeds to the sword by five goals to one, courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick, and strikes from both Mason Greenwood and Fred.

In addition, the Red Devils faithful were treated to a first glimpse of summer signing Raphael Varane, who took to the pitch ahead of kick-off versus Leeds in possession of his new no.19 jersey.

The Frenchman’s introduction unsurprisingly sparked a delirious response on the part of the home crowd, who have long expressed their delight at the addition of a proven, world-class performer to Solskjaer’s defensive ranks.

And Varane himself was evidently rather taken aback by the response of his new fanbase, with the ex-Real Madrid man having since taken to social media to post a simple but altogether effective response:
