Ex-Bayern president: 'Alaba dream was to play for Barcelona

Tonight, David Alaba might've taken on his former club Bayern Munich if his wish had come true in the summer.

According to former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness, the centre-back wanted to join Barcelona before agreeing a move to Real Madrid.

"He [Alaba] told me once: 'my dream is to play for Barcelona one day'," Hoeness said to Bayern 1.

"So I asked him if he wanted to negotiate with the resident or their bankruptcy administrator."

Hoeness hints at Barcelona's financial problems that have only become more acute since Alaba completed his move to Real Madrid.

"Barcelona are no longer a role model for us," Hoeness added as he previewed the Catalans' Champions League clash against Bayern tonight.

"Bayern are the favourites because Barcelona can't be at their best due to the sales of important players and their economic problems."
