Liverpool strike Mane target 30-goal this season

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has set himself an ambitious target of 30 goals this season as he looks to get over his disappointing form last term.

The Senegalese forward has been a pivotal part of Liverpool's recent success as he helped the side to Premier League and Champions League glory since his arrival five years ago.

But his form dipped last season, scoring 16 goals in 48 appearances as Liverpool struggled but eventually managed to get third place after an injury-plagued campaign.

The 29-year-old admits that he is disappointed with his form last season but is now looking to return to his usual self again as he eyes more glory with the Reds this campaign.

Speaking of his ambitions for the season, Mane told Liverpool's official match day programme via Goal: 'I want to score goals, and set up team-mates, even to score 30 goals.

'Why not? The more the better as far as I'm concerned and my ambition for the team is to win trophies. Everybody is hungry for that.

'I was so disappointed with last season, and passionately so, as I thought I could have done more. Whereas I might have been scoring between 18 and 22 goals a season, then on that occasion it was no longer the case so, of course, I was going to be disappointed.'

Jurgen Klopp's men have had a good start to the season with two wins against Norwich and Burnley respectively as well as a draw against Chelsea just before the international break.

Mane has scored one goal so far but has looked as dangerous as ever and he is aware that you can't rely on past success.

He said: 'In football, things move on very quickly and people forget the past. It's a shame, but that's how it is. People aren't always talking about what we have won up to today, and there's no excuse for relaxing in pursuits of our goals.

Since he joined the club in 2016, Mane has become one of the world's best attackers - scoring 98 goals in 221 games whilst winning the Premier League and Champions League in the process.

Liverpool will visit Elland Road to take on Leeds after the international break as the Reds set their sights on a title charge this season.
