Luis Enrique gives update on Man City’s Aymeric Laporte injury

After spending much of 2020/21 as Manchester City’s 3rd choice centre-back behind Ruben Dias and John Stones, Aymeric Laporte now appears to have regained favour with Pep Guardiola.

The Frenchman would start in both of City’s 5-0 wins over Arsenal and Norwich before the international break.

Laporte would then link up with Spain and play the full 90 minutes as Luis Enrique’s side beat Sweden 2-1.

La Roja’s second outing of the break then saw them face off with Georgia on Sunday evening.

Spain would come away with a 4-0 win, which saw Man City’s Ferran Torres get himself on the scoresheet.

However, though Aymeric Laporte would start on Sunday, he was taken off after just 45 minutes.

This no doubt concerned Man City fans, as the Sky Blues have a pretty busy schedule after the break which includes Champions League and League Cup outings.

The Sky Blues’ first game back on Saturday sees them face a trip to Leicester City in the league. They then have clashes with RB Leipzig, Southampton, Wycombe, Chelsea and PSG to round out September.

So, not having all of their top-three central defenders would likely be a big blow for Pep Guardiola and co.

However, when speaking after the match against Georgia, Luis Enrique would provide an injury update on his side, and whilst it doesn’t look good for Jose Gaya, the Spain boss stated that Laporte has nothing and it is just a small overload:
