Lyon president wants Benzema back at former club

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has been talking up the possibility of signing Karim Benzema for OL.

“Karim has never played at Groupama Stadium before," Aulas was quoted by Goal.

"The future will tell us if, when he ends his career, there is a possibility of strengthening the ties.

"He has had an exceptional career at Real Madrid and in the French team. It is a great source of pride because he is a child of OL," Aulas added.

Benzema turned professional in Lyon 17 years ago before moving to Real Madrid in a deal worth €35m.

While the 33-year-old registered 66 goals in 148 games for the Ligue 1 team, he's since become one of Los Blancos' greats with 281 goals in 562 outings.

Benzema's latest contract expires in 2023, and he's since hinted on his desire to move on if he doesn't feel up to Madrid standard.
