The 3 major failed promises of Joan Laporta's presidency so far

Joan Laporta took over as Barcelona president in March. His victory at the polls pumped optimism into Cules. It was further fuelled by his lofty promises to the Blaugrana faithful.

However, six months into his tenure as leader of one of the biggest clubs in the world, Laporta's failed campaign and post-election promises have been brought to the fore, as outlined by Cuatro.

1. Keeping Messi
Laporta promised fans if re-elected, Lionel Messi would remain with Barcelona. It didn't happen.

The contract negotiation dragged on for months after Laporta assumed power. Messi was definitely pissed at some point.

In August, it was revealed the icon would leave Barca. He wept at his farewell speech and landed in PSG within a week.

2. Big signings
Laporta promised Cules he would make big signings once he assumed the reins at Barca. The fans began to believe - perhaps Haaland or Mbappe would join Barca.

However, Laporta made the promises without understanding the financial quagmire the club was in. Meetings with Haaland's agent happened, but Barca could never afford a big signing this summer. Laporta settled for free agents instead

3. Decisive
Laporta promised to be decisive and make the big calls required to help Barcelona get back to its glory days. Fans have seen precious little of that, particularly as regards Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch manager does not seem to have a plan at Barca still, Laporta continues to keep faith with him.

While Laporta drags feet, his rival at the March polls, Victor Font has affirmed Xavi would be Barca's gaffer immediately if he were president.
