Wijnaldum: Liverpool never wanted me to stay

"A few months ago, I wanted to stay at Liverpool, but without going into the details, I didn’t get the feeling they wanted to keep me," Gini Wijnaldum told L’Equipe, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

"In these cases, you have to move forward. Barcelona came up.

"I was keen on the idea of signing for Barcelona. But the negotiations lasted a while and eventually PSG came forward."

Gini's contract ran out despite Klopp pushing to extend it. The Dutchman joined PSG on free agency.

Wijnaldum spent 5 years at Liverpool, making 237 appearances for the Reds and playing a crucial part in their Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

Earlier, he blamed Reds fans on social media for 'not appreciating' him.
