EPL: The real reason De Bruyne and Salah got into a spat with Mourinho at Chelsea

Eddie Newton, the former head of Chelsea's loan department, claims Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah's careers were cut short due to a "personality clash" with then-manager Jose Mourinho.

De Bruyne has since established himself as one of the top playmakers in the world, now playing for Manchester City.

Salah has cemented his place as one of Liverpool's all-time greats.

Both players, though, were unable to progress in their careers at Stamford Bridge, and Newton has explained why.

"I don't believe Salah and De Bruyne's cases were about talent.

"With Jose Mourinho, there was a personality conflict." Newton told Goal, "I just didn't think it was working at the moment."

Salah joined Chelsea from Basel for a rumored sum of around £11 million and was loaned to Fiorentina in Italy.

He never made his way back in after that, as he went to Fiorentina, flourished there, and then was loaned to Roma before making the transfer permanent.

Salah arrived two years before De Bruyne, who came from Genk. The Belgian, who was only 20 years old at the time, finished the 2011/12 season with Genk before being loaned to Werder Bremen in Germany for the 2012/2013 season.
