Frank Lampard is the frontrunner for the Newcastle United manager's post.

Frank Lampard, a former Chelsea coach, is the frontrunner to succeed Steve Bruce as Newcastle manager, according to SunSport.

After Newcastle was taken up by Saudis last week, Bruce is anticipated to be removed of his duties.

And Lampard is a top possibility to succeed Bruce, who met with Amanda Staveley, Newcastle's new part-owner, for the first time on Monday, with negotiations perhaps starting this week.

For the Newcastle position, the former England midfielder is ahead of ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, Leicester City's Brendan Rodgers, Brighton's Graham Potter, and others.

Since leaving Chelsea in January, Lampard has been unemployed. The 43-year-old is eager to go back in the dugout.

Lampard recently stated regarding his desire to return to management, "I've had certain opportunities come up in the last six weeks, two months that have been nice but not the right thing."

"The circumstances weren't ideal, but I'll think about it." It's something I'd like to do at the appropriate moment and in the right place.
