Manchester United's Maguire set to be rewarded with lucrative new contract

Harry Maguire is a key part of both the England and Manchester United set up, regularly occupying the left side of the heart of defence for both outfits.

However, a calf injury forced the Englishman off the pitch midway through the second half of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side’s defeat to Aston Villa at Old Trafford, and has not been seen since.

The Red Devils’ boss subsequently confirmed that he was to be without his captain for the next few weeks, ruling him out of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad in the process, and leaving a space for Fikayo Tomori to be called up in his stead.

While the results from either side are yet to show that they are missing their influential figure, it is certainly safe to say that should he be out for much longer, Manchester United may begin to struggle with Victor Lindelof filling in in his stead.

Maguire set to be offered new deal
Despite his injury setback, Maguire is set to be offered a new contract to better reflect his increased squad role since his move to Manchester from Leicester City in 2019, as per the Daily Mirror.

The defender has made 114 appearances in his 3 seasons at Old Trafford, and has matured into one of the best defenders in the league through his time under Solskjaer. His good performances mean that, as per The Mirror:

“The club are ready to reward his status within the Old Trafford dressing room by improving the terms he is on.”

Now 28 years old, is Maguire ready to lead Manchester United to their first trophy since 2017 this season, and justify his new deal in the process?
