Mane Scores 100 Premier League Goals Without Taking A Single Penalty

Sadio Mane has scored 100 Premier League goals, an unique record for a Liverpool player who has yet to score a penalty.

Mane brought up the milestone with a calm finish from Mohamed Salah's pass early in Saturday's match at Watford.

The Senegal striker scored his first goal for Southampton in a 1-0 victory over Stoke City back in October 2014.

He went on to score nine more goals that season and 11 more the following season, convincing Liverpool to spend £34 million on him due to his impressive and quick adaptation to the Premier League.

While some may have had reservations at first, Mane swiftly recovered and went on to score 13 goals.

Mane scored a career-high 22 goals, with his precision finishing exemplified by the fact that he surpassed his expected goals (xG) by 6.9%. In the top five European leagues that season, only Lionel Messi (12), Paco Alcacer (8.4), and Iago Aspas (8.1) had better records than Mane.

Mane scored 11 goals last season, while receiving more criticism than normal for failing to match his xG total of 14.2.

And he appears to be on track to score at least 10 Premier League goals for the eighth consecutive season, with his goal against Watford moving him to five in just eight games in 2021-22.

Mane's goal-scoring record at Liverpool is even more astounding when you consider that none of his 100 goals have come from penalties.

He is the 31st player in Premier League history to score 100 goals, but just the third to do it without scoring from the penalty spot, following Les Ferdinand (149) and Emile Heskey (110) in an exclusive company.

Mane joins Didier Drogba and Salah as the third African player to reach that milestone.
