Ronaldo deserves this year Ballon d’Or award, claims his agent Jorge Mendes

Jorge Mendes has suggested that Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or more than he did in previous seasons.

The 36-year-old finished the 2020/21 campaign as the top scorer in Serie A. He scored 29 league goals from his 31 appearances. He finished five goals clear of Romelu Lukaku, who netted 24 times for Inter Milan.

Despite this, Inter won the Serie A title as they finished on 91 points. Juventus meanwhile 13 points behind in fourth.

Ronaldo has scored five goals from his seven appearances for Man Utd so far this season. The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced on November 29.

The forward has been nominated. But it is believed that Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho are more likely to win the award.

As reported by Irish outlet Balls.IE, Mendes has suggested that Ronaldo had done “enough” to win the Ballon d’Or.

“The numbers do the talking and they should be enough.

“He scored 115 goals for Portugal, becoming the world record holder with the national teams. He is the best scorer in the history of football.

“It is a decisive thing and means he must win the trophy because he continues to prove that he is the best player in history…

“Do not forget that Cristiano was the top scorer in Serie A, he was the top scorer in the last European championships, he has the record for the most goals in the Champions League and is the only player to have won everything in three different and very competitive countries like Italy, Spain and England.

“All of this together makes him absolutely unique. From my point of view, the Golden Ball has only one name: Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s never deserved it more than this year.”

Elsewhere, Gary Neville has suggested that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would “be gone by now” if was Man Utd boss when David Moyes was:

“If Ole had been the manager in the post Sir Alex Ferguson slip stream he’d be gone by now,” Neville said.

“But because of those bad experiences that United have had through getting rid of managers after a year, two years, eight months, they’re going to live with him and believe in the project for a longer period and I think probably it’s the right way to go because they’ve had bad experiences through changing managers.

“It costs more money sometimes to change.”
