Roy Keane praises England star Foden after his passing masterclass vs Andorra

Roy Keane has lavished praise on Phil Foden after the England star's dazzling display against Andorra, as the hard-to-please pundit compared the youngster to NFL legend Tom Brady.

Foden, 21, was utilised in a deeper midfield role by England boss Gareth Southgate on Saturday night, operating in a double pivot alongside Southampton's James Ward-Prowse.

And the Manchester City star shone for the Three Lions in an assured display on away soil, pulling the strings and playing a huge role in goals from Ben Chilwell and Bukayo Saka.

Foden often sliced Andorra open with raking passes across the pitch and Manchester United legend Keane likened the midfielder's influence to that of famous quarterback Brady.

'I love my American Football and Foden has been like a top quarterback,' the Irishman said on ITV Sport.

'He's been like Tom Brady. He's just picking people out. He's got runners and he's got wide-receivers. He's making it look so easy.'

Foden has enjoyed a bright few weeks for club and country, having netted against Liverpool in City's 2-2 draw at Anfield before the international break.

Keane added that the 21-year-old is 'maturing well' and his development gives Southgate 'great problems' in terms of selection moving forwards.

'He's been maturing well over the last year and he's been playing most weeks for Man City,' Keane said. 'He's playing in big games most weeks and in the top competition in Europe.

'Gareth's got great problems in the next few months but a lot can change in football. With injuries and possible suspensions, a lot can change, but Gareth is a lucky man as he's got great options.'
