Van de Beek speaks on life at Everton after ‘difficult’ period at Manchester United

Everton loan star Donny van de Beek has recounted a ‘special’ reaction, and revealed happiness at finding his feet following a ‘difficult’ Manchester United period.

It was no secret that van de Beek endured a troublesome spell at United. Indeed, he started just four league games in his first season at the club.

Following a £35million move, the Dutchman was expected to be utilised much more than he was. Given his lack of game time, the need to move elsewhere was evident.

The 24-year-old recounted the difficult period when he arrived in the Premier League.

“It was difficult when we came to England,” he told evertonfc.com.

“There were no fans in the stadiums, our family couldn’t visit us, everything was closed, so we couldn’t go out.”

Indeed, moving to a new country while lockdown measures were in place clearly meant he struggled to adapt.

However, his start at Everton was very different, and van de Beek is relishing his time there. The warm reaction he got from fans is something he was very fond of.

“That was so special, I didn’t expect it,” he said.

“I always try my best and it feels good when you know the supporters are behind you.”

Van de Beek relishing Everton chance

The loan star is clearly grateful to be afforded the opportunity to play regular football.

“For my motivation every day, I remember where I started. I always think about this – and always believe there is another way to go up again,” he said.

Indeed, van de Beek is in a place that some people can only wish for.

“I believe in my qualities and know what I can do. I have all the time to do it again and it is up to me to show it.”

At just 24 years old, he will have a lot of opportunities to prove himself, and his time at Everton will be key to that.
