'It will haunt me for the rest of my life': Jorginho on missed penalties after Italy fail to qualify for World Cup

As per Il Corriere dello Sport, Jorginho broke into tears in the Italy dressing room last night after his country were knocked out of World Cup qualification process by North Macedonia.

Jorginho missed two penalties late in the group stages that led to draws and forced Italy into this knockout situation. He admits to being devastated over his missed kicks.

"It hurts when I think about it, because I do still think about it and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

"Stepping up there twice and not being able to help your team and your country is something that I will carry with me forever, and it weighs on me. People say we need to lift our heads and carry on, but it’s tough.

"It hurts so much. I’ll be honest, I am still incredulous. I don’t think we lacked creativity, as we always dominated matches and created so many chances. Unfortunately, we were unable to finish them off."

Italy have missed the last two World Cups and Jorginho will be 34 by the time the next tournament rolls around in 2026.
