'Not good, not good at all': Tuchel breaks down what Chelsea did wrong against Charlotte

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 30th minute and it seemed like the Blues would get a hard-earned win until the very last second, when Charlotte scored a penalty in injury time.

The Blues then lost 5-3 in penalties. Asked to rate his team's performance, Thomas Tuchel told the media: "In general, I would say we played a good first half but only 80 metres of the pitch.

"The last 20 metres were not good enough. We struggled with our decision making and precision in the last 20 metres. There were not enough chances, not enough clear chances.

"We allowed two big chances out of nothing, this was the point of the very first. Otherwise I thought we played a very good match. Second half it took us 30 minutes to show some quality and then it was maybe only for 10 minutes. So not good, not good at all."

He then added: "We presented the team very briefly this morning, we expected a narrow back four and that's what we found. I think we had enough spaces and enough quality in the first half to dominate and finish the game off in the first 20 minutes.

"We keep on struggling to feel these things and then it is not the first time we get punished. If you keep the stadium alive, this is what can happen."

Charlotte had 13 shot attempts across the game, with three being on target. They also had 46% possession of the ball, which not many Chelsea fans would have expected from an MLS side.

The home team clearly looked sharper and as Tuchel said, 'more alive' in their own stadium. Chelsea can hopefully bounce back against Arsenal in the next pre-season friendly.
