'It wasn’t about Zagreb': Todd Boehly breaks silence on sacking Tuchel

"No one is right or wrong, we just didn’t have a shared vision for the future. It wasn’t about Zagreb. It was about a shared vision of what we wanted for Chelsea Football Club to look like," Todd Boehly said about sacking Thomas Tuchel while speaking at the Salt Conference in the US.

"I think Tuchel is obviously extremely talented. He is someone who has had great success at Chelsea.

"The reality of our decision was that we weren’t sure that Thomas saw it the same way we saw it. No one is right or wrong, we just didn’t have a shared vision for the future.

"Before, the first team and academy didn’t really share data, didn’t share information about where the top players were coming from. Our goal is to bring a team together, all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine.

"Our vision for the club was finding a manager who really wanted to collaborate with us. There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea.

"We’ve talked about having a multi-club model. I want to continue building out the footprint. I think there are different countries where there are advantages to having a club.”

This confirms the reports claiming Tuchel was sacked for his managerial style and not for Chelsea's poor form.

The German wasn't aligned with the Americans' hands-on approach to ownership. He simply preferred the Abramovich regime, where he was simply left alone to coach the team without involving himself in the affairs of running the club.
