The Manchester United fan who wore a '97' Hillsborough shirt has pleaded guilty at his court hearing into the jersey.

James White, 33, was arrested at the FA Cup final between United and Manchester City earlier this month for wearing a shirt mocking the Hillsborough disaster, which saw 97 people tragically lose their lives.

White is now awaiting his sentencing after appearing at Willesden Magistrates' Court on Monday 19 June.

He pleaded guilty to displaying threatening or abusive writing likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

An image of White wearing a United jersey with '97 Not enough' on the back went viral on social media in the build-up to the Wembley Stadium clash on June 3.

It immediately sparked outrage on Twitter, with The Met Police later confirming they had made an arrest.

The Met wrote on its official Twitter account: "We are aware of this and have worked proactively with officials at Wembley Stadium to identify the individual," before confirming he had been taken into custody.

The FA also released a statement in which it condemned White's actions, adding: "We saw a photograph of the offensive shirt on social media and immediately started working to identify the perpetrator. Our security team were able to quickly locate the individual based on the image, and we welcome the swift action which was then taken by the police.

"We will not tolerate abuse relating to Hillsborough or any football tragedy at Wembley Stadium and we will continue to work with the authorities to ensure strong action is taken against perpetrators."
