The Four Fastest Goals in UEFA Champions League History

The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious club competition in Europe, where the best teams from different countries face each other for glory. The tournament has witnessed many memorable moments, including some stunning goals scored in the blink of an eye. Here are the four fastest goals ever scored in the Champions League, as of October 2023.

## 1. Roy Makaay (10.12 seconds)

The Dutch striker holds the record for the fastest goal in the Champions League, scoring after just 10.12 seconds for Bayern Munich against Real Madrid in the round of 16 second leg in 2007. Makaay pounced on a poor clearance by Roberto Carlos and fired a low shot past Iker Casillas to give Bayern an early lead. The German side won the game 2-1 and advanced to the quarter-finals on away goals.

## 2. Jonas (10.96 seconds)

The Brazilian forward came close to breaking Makaay's record when he scored after 10.96 seconds for Valencia against Bayer Leverkusen in the group stage in 2011. Jonas received a long pass from Ever Banega and took advantage of a defensive lapse by Leverkusen to slot the ball past Bernd Leno. Valencia won the game 3-1 but failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

## 3. Gilberto Silva (20.07 seconds)

The Arsenal midfielder scored the third fastest goal in the Champions League, netting after 20.07 seconds against PSV Eindhoven in the group stage in 2002. Gilberto Silva intercepted a pass from Mark van Bommel and unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that beat Ronald Waterreus. Arsenal won the game 4-0 and topped their group.

## 4. Alessandro Del Piero (20.12 seconds)

The Juventus legend scored the fourth fastest goal in the Champions League, finding the net after 20.12 seconds against Manchester United in the semi-final first leg in 1997. Del Piero latched on to a through ball from Zinedine Zidane and chipped the ball over Peter Schmeichel to give Juve an early lead. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and Juve reached the final after winning the second leg 3-2.
