Eddie Howe claims Arteta's VAR rant 'overshadowed' Newcastle beating Arsenal

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that the VAR controversy surrounding their recent 1-0 win over Arsenal overshadowed his team's outstanding performance.

"The only disappointment for me was the VAR incident overshadowed our performance," Howe said at a press conference. "When you take into consideration the position we're in, it was absolutely outstanding.

"The players were magnificent in their commitment and desire to win and our general performance was so strong."

The winning goal came from Anthony Gordon, but the decision to allow it stood after a VAR check, despite the fact that Gordon appeared to be offside.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was furious with the decision and has been very vocal in his criticism of VAR since the game.

The media attention has also shifted to VAR issues, with many teams having suffered as a result of controversial decisions this season.

However, some fans have argued that Howe got away with the win only because of the incorrect decision.

Ultimately, the VAR controversy has taken away from what should have been a celebration of Newcastle's victory.
