Arturo Vidal is a volcano

Tuesday's victory over Real Valladolid served as a reminder of just how effective Arturo Vidal can be, despite the fact he has barely featured for Ernesto Valverde this term, yet his volcanic display was symptomatic of a player who goes to the limit both on and off the pitch.

Vidal isn't happy with how little he is being used at Barcelona this season, this is not an individual who can sit comfortably on the bench, yet he is also incapable of sulking and phoning his performances in.

"I'm not happy, all my career I've been a starter and this time I'm not," Vidal explained in an interview with El Mercurio.

"My mentality is to strive to improve and analyse my mistakes.

"I'm calm and I'm working hard to turn things around and win back my place, I know it will come."

This is exactly why nobody was surprised by Vidal's dynamic display on Tuesday evening, he was one of the best players on the team and was instrumental in the victory.

Valverde knows that Vidal is consistent and thus favours him in the bigger matches, the Chilean is a player with unique value due to the fact there is nobody else at Barcelona who plays like him.

He isn't the archetypal midfielder within the club's system that was curated by Johan Cruyff and perfected by Pep Guardiola, but he makes a difference when he's on the pitch.
