Fabregas heaps praises on Fred for his performance against Man City

Arsenal great Cesc Fabregas praised Fred for his performance against Manchester City, although he agreed that the Brazilian should not have taken Manchester United's late free kick.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup despite beating City 1-0 at the Etihad after losing 3-2 on aggregate and Fred impressed again in the middle.

The Brazilian had a difficult start to his time at Old Trafford and failed to make an impact but he's stepped up in recent weeks and has been key for Solskjaer with Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba both out injured.

And it appears he has a fan in the form of Arsenal legend Fabregas.

The Spaniard tweeted: "Fred has been very good in the last few big games I've watched him."

Although the former Arsenal man did agree that the Brazilian should not have taken the free kick United were awarded in the 87th minute. Solskjaer's side needed one more goal to take the tie into extra time and when Harry Maguire was hacked down on the edge of the area by Nicolas Otamendi there was a belief they could get the goal they were looking for.

But the Brazilian blasted his effort into the wall and Fabregas replied to a tweet about his attempt saying: "Mata should have taken it all day long."
