Ex-Inter Milan & Valencia coach not happy with NFF for given Rohr a new contract

Former Inter Milan & Valencia Hector Cuper coach not happy with Nigeria Football Federation for given Gernot Rohr a new contract ahead of him.

The 66-year-old former Bordeaux coach took charge of Super Eagles in 2016 has been locked in discussion with the NFF over an extension to his current contract which is expected to end in June.

Rohr is set to sign a new two years contract extension next week after the German tactician seems ready to abide with the NFF several clauses.


Former Pharaohs of Egypt coach assistant, Mahmoud Ahmed disclosed that Cuper was keen on managing Nigeria and Ghana and was willing to take a pay cut to manage the Super Eagles after failing to land the Black Stars job since is still without a job after he was sacked by the Uzbekistan FA in September 2019.

As he told Premium Times that the Argentine was waiting to pounce on the Nigeria’s job should Rohr failed to agree a new deal with the NFF.


“Mr Cuper is ever ready to work in Africa with Nigeria and Ghana as countries of preference because of its abundant talents,” Mahmoud said.

“We had hoped to land Ghana job but GFA decided to close its door on foreign coaches and settled for Charles Akunor. Our attention was shifted to Nigeria and we felt the salary problem between Rohr and Nigeria might be a problem.

“But its looks impossible now that Nigeria have decided to extend Rohr’s contract.”

Cuper started his coaching career with Huracán in 1993 a year and a half after his retirement football before a spell at Lanús, Mallorca, Valencia, Inter Milan, Real Betis, Parma, Georgia, Aris Thessaloniki, Orduspor, Al Wasl, Egypt and Uzbekistan.
