JUST IN: Guardiola confirms exit of top star from Manchester City

After several months of back and forth, Pep Guardiola has finally confirmed Leroy Sane WILL leave Manchester City this summer.

It has been a herculean task for Guardiola and indeed the Manchester City hierarchy to tie Sane down to a new contract all season.

But after “two or three times” of trying, Guardiola has admitted defeat as Sane prepares to return home to join newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich according to several reports.

Sane had put himself in the frame for a shock Man City return by playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Etihad last week.

The German winger, 24, hasn’t featured for the first-team since he injured his cruciate ligament in the Community Shield in August.

And in May, Bayern Munich – now officially Bundesliga champions – chief Uli Hoeness hinted Sane was set to be part of his squad for 2020-21.

He told Bayern 1: “With Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle and hopefully David Alaba, Thiago and also Leroy Sane, we have a young, viable team.

“I can imagine, if everything goes well, that a new era is just beginning at Bayern Munich.”

Former Schalke star Sane told City bosses he wanted to leave to join Bayern earlier this year, according to reports.
