REVEALED: Why Osimhen is still stranded in Nigeria

The coronavirus pandemic has made things that are as easy as flying from one place to the other now very difficult if not impossible.

This situation is causing a lot of headaches and some Nigerian players are now holed up in the country despite activities resuming in their respective clubs.

One of those that is still caught up in Nigeria several days after his club has resumed training is Victor Osimhen.

Though frantic efforts are being made, Lille manager Christophe Galtier on Friday confirmed Osimhen is yet to return to the club for pre-season training as he is still holed up in Nigeria due to travel restrictions,

Osimhen was granted compassionate leave by the club to attend his father’s funeral early this week.

The 21-year-old was expected to rejoin his team-mates on Friday but could not secure a flight to France.

“No, he did not come back from Nigeria. He was suppose to arrive today . But he was blocked by the health crisis because the borders are closed,” Galtier told a news conference on Friday.

Osimhen is expected to leave Lille this summer with a number of European big guns interested in him and Napoli reported to be in pole position among the numerous suitors.

Voted as Lille Player of the season, Osimhen has enjoyed a phenomenal season in France; scoring 18 goals and recorded six assists in 31 appearances for the Great Danes.
