Chelsea reportedly 'abandon pursuit' of Jan Oblak

Atletico Madrid are standing firm on their valuation of £109M for the player.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have abandoned their pursuit of signing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The La Liga club stand firm on their valuation of £109M (which is his release clause) for the world-class player and will not accept a penny less from any club.

Now, as the transfer window ticks on, Chelsea are ready to turn their attention elsewhere and have accepted defeat on the matter as they will not pay another world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

Nick Pope and Andre Onana are the reported alternatives and either of the two players will cost Chelsea significantly lesser than Oblak.

Pope had a great season with Burnley and has Premier League experience whereas Onana had a breakout year at Ajax.

We must add that the Daily Star is not the best source of news, but they back up what the reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano said recently when he stated that the Blues have no chance of signing Oblak.
