Courtois to officially takeover the No.1 shirt at Madrid next season

Thibaut Courtois will officially become Real Madrid’s No.1 next season when he gets to wear the acclaimed kit.

With Alphonso Areola - who wore the number last season - now gone, the Belgian goalkeeper is free to wear it next season.

Madrid wanted to give Courtois the shirt last season, but La Liga regulations prevented that from happening.

The Belgian’s No.13 shirt is now open and his backup Andriy Lunin is expected to take over that for next season, according to Marca.

Courtois definitely deserves the legendary number - once wore by his idol Iker Casillas – after winning the Zamora Trophy last season.
