England FA to abandon plan to host fans at Community Shield game

FA could have used the game on August 29 between Liverpool and Arsenal as the marquee event for spectators to return.

According to the Daily Mail, the FA has to abandon plans for 22,500 fans to be allowed to watch the Community Shield fixture from the stands at the Wembley Stadium.

The government were initially supportive of the idea, but after pilots in other sports have been cancelled, it is no longer feasible.

The government's guidelines will be updated after August 15, and the FA will simply have no time to organise an event of such a scale.

On August 29, Liverpool will take on Arsenal at Wembley and it appears that just as when the Reds lifted the Premier League trophy, there'll be no fans to celebrate if Jurgen Klopp's side wins on that day as well.
