Gabriel Magalhaes To Arsenal Latest Update Emerge With Wage Deal Explained

Gabriel Magalhaes To Arsenal Latest Update

Arsenal could be closing in on their first defensive signing of the summer in the form of Gabriel Magalhaes.

Here are the latest updates ahead of Magalhaes’ potential move to the Emirates before the October 5 summer transfer deadline.

Wage package
The Lille centre-back will sign a five-year deal worth €2m (1.8m) after tax.

The defender will also receive wage hikes throughout his contract, increasing his weekly salary the longer he stays in north London.

London arrival
Italian Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Magalhaes and his agents will arrive in London on Monday to finalise the move.

A fee of €30m (£27m) has been agreed and the 22-year-old will put pen to paper on a five-year contract worth €2m-a-year (£1.8m).

Decision on the way
Arsenal will discover if their pursuit of the centre-back has been successful today, according to reports in France.

According to French journalist Saber Desfarges, the player the centre-back will make his final decision on Wednesday.

It is believed his preference is to seal a move to the Premier League, handing Arsenal a major boost over Gennaro Gattuso’s side.

Deadline set
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Gabriel entered into a ‘moral agreement’ with Napoli earlier in the summer, and that he had been waiting for Gennaro Gattuso’s side to match his valuation of £23m.

They add that Arsenal are in turn willing to pay £27m to put themselves in pole position, but that will only be considered if Napoli miss a two week deadline set by Gabriel’s agent.

That waiting period could force the Gunners to search for other targets considering that they take on Liverpool in the community shield as close as August 29.
