Raul’s Real Madrid Juvenil A side have won their first-ever UEFA Youth League trophy after defeating Benfica U19 3-2 in the finals.
Los Blancos dominated the first half and goals from striker Pablo Rodriguez and an own-goal from Henrique Jocu gave them a 2-0 lead.
Benfica then pulled one back early in the second-half through Goncalo Ramos, but Miguel Ortega’s 50th-minute goal proved to be our winner even though Ramos scored another one in the 57th.
The Portuguese side threw everything at and even won a penalty late on, but a brilliant save from Luis Andugar sealed the win for us.
Raul has done a brilliant job with the U19 side and this is his crowning achievement, something that can further boost his chances of becoming the senior team’s boss in the future.
