Wigan supporters thank Chelsea full-back Reece James for his effort to save the club

Wigan Athletic could've been kicked out of League One if they had not found buyers until August 31.

Fans decided to take charge of the club's future and started a Crowdfunder project to raise £500,000.

Reece James, who had a breakthrough loan spell at the club in 2018/19, donated £3,000 and urged people to follow suit.

Official Wigan Athletic Supporters Club have now thanked the right-back for the efforts.

"Reece James, your support has made a huge impact on exposure to Save Our Club - we’re now well on our way to reaching the £600,000 milestone," the message reads.

"From £300,000 on Saturday to our current tally, it’s unbelievable!"
