Argentina boss not in Agreement with Barcelona manager Koeman in playing Messi as false 9

Messi is set to help his county in the Wolrd Cup qualifiers at the start of October.

"The idea we have is always having people in front of Messi when the team has the ball," Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni told Libero when asked if he considers playing Leo Messi as a false No.9 in the upcoming Wolrd Cup qualifiers.

"It gave us results [in the 2019 Copa America]. We needed to have people ahead so that he could assist and be deeper and not on the last man."

As Barcelona haven't signed a replacement for Luis Suarez after parting ways with Uruguayan last week, Ronald Koeman used Messi as a false No.9 in the 4-0 La Liga win over Villarreal on Sunday. The 33-year-old scored from the penalty spot against the Yellow Submarine.

Leo is set to feature for the Catalans in the league encounters with Celta and Sevilla before joining the Argentina squad for next month's 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

"He's been called up for these two games," Scaloni added on the 33-year-old. "If he's available, I don't see why he can't perform at his best, like the other players."

Argentina will take on Ecuador and Bolivia on October 8 and 13 respectively.
