The striker admits contemplating leaving the Emirates before Arteta joined the club.
Auba says he had good offers from elsewhere but chose to stay on with the Gunners because of the fan support.
He doubts he would have been able to get the same love at other clubs.
"I was thinking about it to tell you the truth because I had good opportunities as well," Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told Sky Sports.
"But this feeling to be here - the love from the fans and all the club - I'm not sure that by leaving I will receive the same love, so that's why I'm staying.
I'm really proud to be the captain but it's not the biggest factor to stay. Of course, it's a great job to do but it was not a part of me staying here."
Earlier Auba also talked about the positive vibe he got after Mikel Arteta was appointed head coach.
The pair spoke about Auba's future during lockdown and the boss convinced our star striker that staying at the club would allow him to create a legacy.
We are pretty sure it wasn't smooth sailing from there still, because the Gabon striker only officially signed last week but we got there in the end.
It would have been a massive pain to look for a striker of Auba's quality in the financially-restricted market.
