Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and C.Ronaldo officially snubbed for Champions League positional awards

Lionel Messi hasn't made the cut for the 2019/20 Champions League positional award shortlist.

The news probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise as Barcelona were destroyed 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the quarter-final.

Jan Oblak and Kevin De Bruyne are the only players not from finalists Bayern and PSG who have been included in the shortlists.

The full list of positional award nominees for the 2019/20 Champions League:

Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Manuel Neuer, Jan Oblak.
Defenders: David Alaba, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich.
Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne, Thomas Muller, Thiago Alcantara.
Forwards: Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar.
Messi was voted only joint fifth-best forward in last season's CL campaign, alongside Erling Haaland - each received 33 points. Leo's rival Cristiano Ronaldo finished in eighth with 18 points.

Head coaches from the 32 clubs who made last season's CL group stage and one journalist from each of 55 UEFA member associations were the ones who voted. The jury members picked their top three in each position, with the first player receiving 5 points, the second 3 and the third 1 point.:
