Champions League elimination with Real Madrid is the worst in my career: Mourinho
The former Madrid boss rues the fact that we lost in an infamous penalty shoot-out.
He reckons that we were the best team in Europe during that time.
Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho told Portuguese television channel Sic: "If I have to choose the worst moment, it's that elimination with Real Madrid.
"We were the best team in Europe, without a doubt, we won La Liga smashing all the records for points and goals and we would've won that final, I don't have any doubt.
"What was most cruel for me was that in the shoot-out we chose Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos, they were dead certs from the penalty spot and the guys who missed were those who never miss, it sunk me."
Back in 2012, Bayern Munich managed to get the better of us during a semi-final penalty shoot-out at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That defeat in one way or another also paved the way for the Portuguese's exit, with Mourinho returning to Chelsea a year later.
Fortunately, we have a different story to tell now and we're widely recognized as one of the best teams in Europe - if not the best.
